At least I saw snow
I started out at 10:30 a.m. for a trek up to Sestriere, where the DMN has housing and the venue for a couple of skiing events. When Andy said, “See you in 4-5 hours,” I thought it couldn’t possibly take that long. Little did I know that the winding roads on the edge of the Alps would be s-l-o-w going both ways. The bus map is deceiving because you don’t factor in the altitude or that you’re only moving 5-10 mph. I also rode four different buses, and the transfers weren’t all that quick. Not that I’m complaining. It was gorgeous scenery and fun to be the only passenger at times. One driver had the Norah Jones CD playing. This was part of my work day, research for how long the trip takes when we have writers and photographers covering mountain events.

Some of my colleagues from the paper arrived today. Their plane to Turin dropped them off in Milan instead. They ended up taking a bus to Turin. It was at least a 20-hour journey from Dallas, but they were good sports. We went out for a two-hour dinner and they didn’t complain.
